Paracoccidioides brasiliensis Strain IVIC Pb9
نویسندگان
چکیده
The yeastlike form of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis strain IVIC Pb9 reduced the amount of a-1,3-glucan in its cell wall from 45 to 3% when subcultured in vitro for several years. This strain regained its a-1,3-glucan up to 25% of the total cell wall when grown in vivo. A mutant strain of P. brasiliensis Pb9, named IVIC Pbl4O, reported to have 1,3-mannan instead of a-glucan in the cell wall, could not be recovered from experimentally infected animals. The existence ofsome relationship between the presence of a-1,3-glucan in the cell wall of the yeastlike form and the pathogenicity of this fungus is suggested in this report.

متن کاملMolecular identification of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis by PCR amplification of ribosomal DNA.
We have amplified and sequenced the 5.8S and 28S ribosomal DNA genes and intergenic regions of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis, strain Pb01. Using primers specifically designed for both ribosomal DNA regions, we were able to discriminate between P. brasiliensis and other human pathogenic fungi by PCR. The use of this molecular marker could be important for paracoccidiodomycosis diagnosis and ecol...
متن کاملAlternative Oxidase Mediates Pathogen Resistance in Paracoccidioides brasiliensis Infection
BACKGROUND Paracoccidioides brasiliensis is a human thermal dimorphic pathogenic fungus. Survival of P. brasiliensis inside the host depends on the adaptation of this fungal pathogen to different conditions, namely oxidative stress imposed by immune cells. AIMS AND METHODOLOGY In this study, we evaluated the role of alternative oxidase (AOX), an enzyme involved in the intracellular redox bala...
متن کاملData in support of quantitative proteomics to identify potential virulence regulators in Paracoccidioides brasiliensis isolates
Paracoccidioides genus are the etiologic agents of paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM), a systemic mycosis endemic in Latin America. Few virulence factors have been identified in these fungi. This paper describes support data from the quantitative proteomics of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis attenuated and virulent isolates [1]. The protein compositions of two isolates of the Pb18 strain showing distin...
متن کاملModulatory effect of prostaglandins on human monocyte activation for killing of high- and low-virulence strains of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis.
The effect of indomethacin (Indo), a cyclo-oxygenase inhibitor, on the monocyte-mediated killing of a low- (Pb265) and a high- (Pb18) virulence strain of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis was examined. The Pb18 strain was not killed by either non-activated or interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) -activated human monocytes but these cells did show fungicidal activity if pretreated with Indo. In contrast wit...
